NAIROBI, Kenya — Streaming platform Showmax has confirmed the commissioning of three new Kenyan original series, in a major expansion of its local content investment that signals growing confidence in the size and appetite of Kenya's streaming audience.
The three projects include a political thriller set in Nairobi's power corridors, a coming-of-age drama following students at a Rift Valley boarding school, and a true-crime documentary series re-examining high-profile unsolved cases from Kenya's recent history.
Each production will feature predominantly Kenyan writers, directors, and casts, with a combined investment of over KSh 800 million — the largest single local content spend by any streaming platform in East Africa.
"Kenyan stories resonate not just here but across Africa and the diaspora. Our investment is an expression of our confidence in that audience."
— Marc Maltz, Showmax CEO Africa
The first of the three series is expected to premiere in October 2026, with the others following in early 2027.
